Drywood termites are a type of termite that infest dry wood, without needing contact with soil. Unlike subterranean termites, they do not require moisture from the ground and can thrive in wooden structures, furniture, and even framing inside homes. These termites create small, smooth tunnels within the wood and often go unnoticed until significant damage has occurred. They are known for producing tiny fecal pellets, called frass, which they push out of their tunnels, leaving behind small piles that can indicate an infestation. Because they live entirely within the wood they consume, drywood termites are harder to detect and often require fumigation or spot treatments to eliminate them.

Subterranean termites are highly destructive pests that live in underground colonies and feed on wood, causing significant structural damage to buildings and homes. These termites thrive in moist environments and build intricate tunnel systems, known as mud tubes. A single colony can contain millions of termites, including workers, soldiers, and reproductive members, all working together to sustain their community. Because they consume wood from the inside out, infestations often go unnoticed until severe damage has occurred. Effective prevention includes eliminating moisture sources, sealing entry points, and chemical treatments to protect structures from infestation.
